❓ Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why was my registration suspended?
Your registration was likely suspended because the DMV did not receive valid proof of insurance for your vehicle. This is automatically triggered when insurance coverage lapses or your provider fails to electronically report coverage.
2. I just got insurance. Will the suspension be lifted automatically?
Not always. Even if you recently obtained insurance, there may be a delay in reporting it to the DMV. Using EZPayDMV, we can help confirm and expedite the reinstatement process on your behalf.
3. I just bought this car. Why is the registration showing suspended?
If you're a new owner, the registration isn’t actually suspended. New buyers have 30 days from the date of purchase to get insurance. You likely need a title transfer, not a reinstatement. Visit our Title Transfer Page to get started.
4. How much is the reinstatement fee?
The California DMV reinstatement fee is $14, plus our service fee of $39.99 for fast, online processing. The total cost will show prior to submission of your request.
5. How long does it take to reinstate my registration?
In most cases, we can complete the reinstatement within the same business day and email you confirmation once it’s done. Some cases may take longer depending on DMV system delays or insurance verification.
6. Can I drive while my registration is suspended?
No. Operating a vehicle with suspended registration is illegal and can result in fines or vehicle impoundment. Use our service to fix it fast and avoid legal trouble.
7. What documents do I need to submit?
Typically, we only need your license plate number, VIN, and proof of current insurance. Our form will guide you step-by-step. If more information is required, we’ll follow up.
8. Will I get new tags or a new registration card?
Reinstatement removes the suspension on your vehicle record, but this doesn't include renewing your registration. Renewing your registration is a separate process that can be requested once the suspension is lifted.
