  1. File a police report with your local law enforcement agency. Get a copy or case number. In most cases you can file a police report online with your local police department.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions​

 

1. Will I get the same license plate number, or a new one? What do I do with the old plate if I find it?

 

In most cases, the DMV will issue you a new set of license plates with a new number for security purposes.
If you later find the old plate, do not place it back on your vehicle. It is no longer valid and should be surrendered to the DMV or securely destroyed.

2. Do I get a new title and registration card with the updated plate number?

You will receive a new registration card showing your updated license plate number.
However, the DMV does not automatically issue a new title when plates are replaced. This is normal, as vehicle identification is primarily tied to the VIN number, not the plate.

If you'd like a new title with the updated plate number, we can add it to your order upon request.

 

Note: If you have a lienholder on file, the updated title will be mailed directly to them.
If your vehicle is paid off, we can help you remove the lienholder with a notarized lien release.

3. Why do I need to upload my driver’s license?

We use your driver’s license to:

6. Can plates and tags be shipped to a different address?

 

Yes, but only under certain conditions:

  • If someone else is submitting the request on your behalf, plates and tags will be shipped to the address currently on file with the DMV.

  • If you are the registered owner and making the request yourself, we can ship to a different address, provided we can verify your identity.
